1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small data files stored on, or read from, your browser or device when you visit a website. Similar technologies, such as local storage, may perform comparable functions. Cookies may enable core Website functionality, remember choices, provide security and, where permitted, measure how a Website is used.
Cookies may be:
- session cookies, which generally expire when you close your browser; or
- persistent cookies, which remain until their expiry date or until you delete them.
They may also be first-party cookies, set in connection with the Website's domain, or third-party cookies, set or accessed by an external service provider.
2. Legal basis and consent
Strictly necessary cookies and similar technologies may be used without consent only where they are essential to transmit a communication, provide a feature you explicitly request, maintain security or remember your privacy choices.
Analytics, performance and any advertising cookies are non-essential. They are used only after you give prior consent through the Website's cookie banner. The associated processing of personal data is based on Article 6(1)(a) GDPR.
Consent is voluntary. Analytics and advertising categories must be switched off by default. You may use the Website even if you reject non-essential cookies, although anonymous or non-cookie-based measurements may still occur where legally permitted.
3. Cookie categories
3.1 Strictly necessary cookies — always active
Squarespace uses necessary cookies or similar technologies to operate and secure the Website, support forms and remember cookie preferences. The precise cookies may vary depending on the Squarespace features in use.
Examples may include:
Cookie or technology | Provider | Purpose | Expected duration
- `ss_performanceCookiesAllowed` | Squarespace | Remembers the visitor's analytics and performance-cookie choice | Approximately 30 days
- `ss_marketingCookiesAllowed` | Squarespace | Remembers the visitor's marketing-cookie choice | Approximately 30 days
- `Test` | Squarespace | Checks whether the browser supports cookies and helps prevent errors | Session
- Other security or form-related technologies | Squarespace | Provides security, prevents abuse and enables requested Website functionality | Session or as technically necessary
These technologies are not used to measure visits or create advertising profiles merely because they are classified as necessary.
3.2 Performance and analytics cookies — consent required
If you consent, Squarespace Analytics and Google Analytics may use cookies to measure visits, sessions, traffic sources and interactions with the Website.
Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Expected duration |
- `ss_cid` | Squarespace | Identifies a unique visitor for Squarespace Analytics | Up to 2 years
- `ss_cpvisit` | Squarespace | Identifies a unique visitor and tracks sessions | Up to 2 years
- `ss_cvisit` | Squarespace | Supports measurement of a visit or session | Approximately 30 minutes
- `ss_cvr` | Squarespace | Identifies a unique visitor and tracks sessions | Up to 2 years
- `ss_cvt` | Squarespace | Supports measurement of a visit or session | Approximately 30 minutes
- `_ga` | Google Analytics | Distinguishes visitors for statistical measurement | Up to 2 years
- `_ga_<container-id>` | Google Analytics | Maintains and measures a visitor session | Up to 2 years
The exact cookie name, availability and duration may change when Squarespace or Google updates its services. This table must be reviewed when Website integrations change.
3.3 Advertising cookies — not currently used
The Website does not currently use advertising cookies or the Meta Pixel. If advertising or retargeting technology is introduced, it will remain disabled until consent is given, and this Cookie Policy will be updated before or when that technology is introduced.
Ordinary links to Facebook and Instagram are not treated as advertising cookies. When you follow such a link, the destination platform processes information under its own privacy and cookie terms.
4. Managing and withdrawing consent
On your first visit, the cookie banner allows you to:
- "Accept all" non-essential cookies;
- "Reject all" non-essential cookies; or
- open "Manage Cookies" and choose categories.
You may change your decision or withdraw consent at any time by selecting the permanently available "Manage Cookies" or "Cookie Preferences" control in the Website footer. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing carried out lawfully before withdrawal.
You may also delete or block cookies through your browser settings. Browser controls operate separately from the Website's consent tool and may affect Website functionality. Because preferences can be device- and browser-specific, you may need to repeat your choice on each browser or device. Deleting cookies may also delete the cookie that remembers your consent choice.
5. Third-party information
Further information about cookies and processing by our service providers is available from:
-Squarespace: https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001264507-The-cookies-Squarespace-uses
-Google: https://policies.google.com/technologies/cookies
Third-party policies do not replace this Website's obligation to obtain consent where consent is required.
6. International processing
Squarespace and Google may process information through entities or infrastructure outside Malta or the EEA. Where GDPR applies, international transfers must be supported by a lawful transfer mechanism, as described in our Privacy Policy.
7. Changes to this Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy when the Website, its service providers or applicable legal requirements change. The latest version will be published on this page. If a material change affects the scope of consent previously given, we will ask you to make a new choice where required.
8. Contact and complaints
Questions about cookies or privacy choices may be sent to andy@beethename.com.
